Background information on W. Steven Olinek
W. Steven Olinek, a 25-year veteran of the Detroit shipping industry is the deputy director of the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority, where he has worked for the past nine years. In this position, he is responsible for, among other things, the marketing and administration of Greater Detroit Foreign Trade Zone, Inc., one of the largest and most successful foreign-trade zone programs in the country.
Since beginning his career with the Grand Trunk Western Railroad, Olinek has worked in virtually all facets of the trade-development and intermodal transportation industries: from trucking to freight brokerage to corporate logistics with the Stroh Brewery Company, where he also served as director of development for the company's private fleet.
Canada-born and a long-time Metro Detroit resident, Olinek is an honors graduate of Michigan State University. He lives in Birmingham, Mich. with his wife and son.
